These teams build and operate the systems and user experiences that power core Crunchbase products and services. Your role is to guide the team’s execution, grow engineers, and ensure strong technical decision-making in service of durable product outcomes.You will lead a cross-functional team composed of frontend and backend (“platform”) engineers, responsible for delivering end-to-end product functionality. While this role benefits from strong technical depth, you are accountable for the overall technical execution and delivery of the team across the stack.This is a technical people leadership role. Success in the role depends on strong engineering judgment, the ability to guide architecture and delivery, and the ability to build a healthy, high-performing team. While it does not require ongoing individual ownership of implementation work, we’ve observed a strong correlation between technical proficiency and success in this role, so we expect you to maintain your technical chops while in the role.What You'll Do:Technical Leadership & Execution:Own the team’s technical outcomes by ensuring the right technical discussions happen, risks are surfaced, standards are upheld, and the team is empowered to build what is right for our business and customersGuide architectural decisions and ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and maintainable as product complexity growsEstablish and uphold standards for performance, quality, and observability across the stackLead technical design discussions and code reviews to ensure sound engineering decisions, without requiring direct ownership of implementationEnsure strong operational practices, including monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement of system reliabilityDrive pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope, making risks and constraints explicitSupport AI-enabled product experiences, partnering with backend and data teams to integrate AI-driven features into performant, user-friendly interfaces.Partner with Security and Compliance teams to ensure infrastructure meets regulatory requirements (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR) and internal security standards.Team Leadership:Build and lead a high-performing engineering team, setting clear expectations for ownership, execution, and collaborationProvide regular, actionable feedback and coaching to support individual growth and strong performanceHire and retain talented engineers, contributing to a thoughtful and consistent hiring processCreate an environment where engineers can operate with increasing autonomy while maintaining accountability for outcomesIdentify and address performance issues directly and constructivelyFoster a team culture that values pragmatic decision-making, continuous improvement, and shared ownership of resultsCross-Functional Leadership:Partner closely with Product and Design to deliver business outcome, not just execute on requirementsTranslate product goals into clear engineering plans, making the tradeoffs between scope, speed, and technical quality explicitAlign stakeholders on priorities and sequencing, ensuring the team is working on the most impactful problemsTake ownership of delivery outcomes, even when dependencies or ambiguity span multiple teamsCollaborate with adjacent engineering teams to manage dependencies and maintain system coherence across the productContribute to broader engineering initiatives (e.g., architecture, quality, developer experience) through participation in guilds and working groupsAdvocate for the team’s needs and create visibility for the team’s impact across the broader organizationPerforms other related duties as assigned.What We're Looking For:4+ years of experience in senior or staff Engineering roles.1+ year in management position.Experience leading engineering teams
