Job Description
**Overview**
Marina Electric Inc., a commercial electrical contractor with over 20 years of experience serving schools, universities, government facilities, and commercial clients across Northern Virginia, DC \& Maryland, is seeking a detail\-oriented Part\-Time Bookkeeper to support our finance operations. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and supporting the day\-to\-day accounting needs of a busy contracting company. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, and comfortable working independently in a trade/construction environment.
**Duties**
* Maintain accurate and up\-to\-date financial records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
* Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and general ledger reconciliation to ensure accuracy.
* Conduct bank reconciliations and account reconciliations regularly to verify transactions align with bank statements and internal records.
* Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
* Prepare detailed financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
* Assist with payroll processing, tax filings, and governmental accounting requirements as needed.
* Support budgeting activities by analyzing financial data and preparing reports that aid strategic decision\-making.
* Ensure compliance with double\-entry bookkeeping standards, maintaining proper debits \& credits for all transactions.
* Handle month\-end closing procedures, including bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliation tasks.
* Contribute to internal audits by providing accurate documentation and supporting audit processes related to financial concepts and technical accounting.
**Qualifications**
* Proven experience working with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms; familiarity with Quicken is a plus.
* Strong understanding of corporate accounting principles, GAAP standards, governmental accounting, and non\-profit accounting practices.
* Demonstrated ability in balance sheet reconciliation, bank reconciliation, account analysis, and general ledger accounting.
* Knowledge of accounts payable/receivable processes and payroll management.
* Experience with tax preparation or tax experience related to financial reporting is desirable.
* Excellent skills in account reconciliation, journal entries, financial report writing, and 10 key typing for data entry accuracy.
* Ability to interpret financial concepts such as debits \& credits, double\-entry bookkeeping, and technical accounting procedures.
* Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in account analysis and budget management.
* Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments and supporting internal audits or external inquiries.
