Job Description
Role Overview
Academian is seeking a **Subject Matter Expert (SME)** to review and validate Career and Technical Education (CTE) course content for **Principles of Family, Human \& Community Services**.
The SME will ensure instructional content is accurate, engaging, age\-appropriate, and aligned with Family \& Consumer Sciences (FCS) and Human Services CTE standards. This role works closely with Instructional Designers and content teams to review course materials, assessments, and learning activities for secondary learners.
Subject Matter Expertise
Candidates should have experience in **Family \& Consumer Sciences (FCS), Human Services, Human Development, Social Work, Community Services, Education**, or a related field, with knowledge of:
* Family and human services foundations
* Human development and family relationships
* Community resources and human services career pathways
* Consumer and family resource management
* Communication, professionalism, ethics, diversity, and career readiness
Key Responsibilities
* Review course design documents, lessons, storyboards, activities, and assessments for accuracy and alignment with learning objectives.
* Recommend revisions to improve instructional quality, learner engagement, and content relevance.
* Ensure content reflects current Family \& Consumer Sciences and Human Services practices.
* Provide subject matter expertise, real\-world examples, and industry best practices.
* Collaborate with Instructional Designers, writers, editors, and project stakeholders throughout the review process.
* Participate in quality assurance reviews and project meetings.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Family \& Consumer Sciences, Human Services, Human Development, Social Work, Education, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
* **5\+ years** of experience teaching Family \& Consumer Sciences, Human Services, or related CTE courses at the high school level.
* Strong understanding of family and human services concepts, community resources, and career pathways.
* Excellent communication, analytical, and content review skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience teaching **Principles of Family, Human \& Community Services** or related FCS/Human Services courses.
* Teaching certification in FCS, Human Services, or Career and Technical Education (CTE).
* Experience developing or reviewing curriculum, assessments, or digital learning content.
* Familiarity with state or national FCS/Human Services CTE standards.
Engagement
* **Project Duration:** Approximately 6 months per course
* **Commitment:** 2–3 hours per day during active review phases
* Participate in scheduled review cycles and meetings.
* Provide timely feedback on assigned deliverables.
* Availability during U.S. business hours is required.
Pay: $35\.00 \- $40\.00 per hour
