Job Title: Grants & Sponsored Programs AccountantReporting Relationship:Director of Grants & Sponsored ProgramsUnit: Central AdministrationDepartment: Grants OfficeCampus Location: Online/RemoteSummary of Position:The Grants & Sponsored Programs Accountant is responsible for pre/post-award grant accounting, including internal/external reporting and maintaining compliance with all federal and private grant agreements. Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupport faculty, staff, and administrators by developing/reviewing/editing grant budgets and budget narrativesAssist Director with internal review/approval process for grant proposalsCoordinate with Business Affairs Office to establish General Ledger account codes associated with new grants and communicate these GL accounting codes with project managersEnsure funding award checks and direct deposits are delivered to the Business Affairs OfficeParticipate in grant kick-off meetings and quarterly check-in meetings with project managers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with grant agreement financial mattersProvide support to project managers for the duration of the grant cycle on matters associated with the grant budgetsPrepare monthly budget reports for project managersAnalyze variances between actual and budgeted expenses and notify project manager and Director of any concerns or questions related to grant financesAssist Director with monthly/annual Grants & Sponsored Programs reports that include financial dataSupport project managers by developing/reviewing/editing budgets to be included in their grant reportsMaintain accurate and up-to-date digital records of all current/past grant budgets, including reporting procedures and deadlinesEnsure compliance with Uniform Guidance and other regulations in accordance with the grant agreementPrepare audit worksheets, schedules, reports, and supporting documentation to be used during grant audits by federal, state, or other related agencies and external auditorsConduct specialized financial analysis as requested by the DirectorParticipate in regular meetings with the Grants & Sponsored Programs team, and with project managers or project teamsFulfill other duties as assignedQualifications:According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.EducationBachelor's degree in Accounting, or related fieldExperienceThree to five (3-5) years of related work experience desiredRequired SkillsUnderstanding of general accounting principlesUnderstanding of grants accountingProficiency with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, etc.) and general computer skillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyAbility to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environmentProblem solving and resourcefulness with challenges that may arise in the workplace, taking initiative and seeking guidance when neededFamiliarity with federal, state, and private grant funding agency regulations and guidelines.Willingness to learn and growIWU Kingdom Diversity StatementIWU, in covenant with God's reconciling work and in accordance with the Biblical principles of our historic Wesleyan tradition, commits to build a community that reflects Kingdom diversity.
