Job Description
Our client, a specialist insurance business, is seeking a Vice President to establish and lead a new Risk Intelligence function. The business operates as a focused underwriting unit within a larger global insurance platform. It provides coverage for freight brokers and third-party logistics providers across the United States and Canada, with a client base made up primarily of medium and large operators. The team is lean, highly specialized, and supported by proprietary technology. It oversees a substantial premium book across several hundred insured clients.This is a founding leadership opportunity. The successful candidate will not step into an existing department. They will be responsible for building one.About the roleThis is a practical, field-facing operational role rather than a back-office policy position. The successful candidate will:Build the Risk Intelligence department over time, with the first hire expected within approximately one yearIdentify the gaps between intended processes and actual execution, then help drive corrective actionWork closely with insured clients to understand how their businesses operate in practiceAdvise the underwriting team based on insights gathered directly from the fieldReview clients’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to confirm they are clearly documented, properly implemented, and followed in day-to-day operationsConnect this work to measurable outcomes, including reduced losses, fewer claims, and stronger client performanceKey responsibilitiesProvide clients with clear, practical guidance to improve safety and complianceLead the Risk Intelligence function from inceptionAssess how effectively each insured client vets and onboards motor carriers, including safety, financial standing, licensing, and insurance, and identify where compliance checklists break downPartner with underwriting to strengthen risk selection, and collaborate with claims to identify loss patterns and prevent repeat lossesDesign scalable processes, SOP audit frameworks, and an enterprise risk management (ERM) approach the company can expand over timeServe as a trusted advisor who helps improve the operational maturity of the clients supportedConduct client reviews and operational assessments, primarily by video call, with some on-site visitsHelp shape how the department and team develop over the coming yearsRequirementsEssentialStrong analytical ability and a data-driven approach to decision-making15-plus years of hands-on experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations at the enterprise risk levelAbility to manage multiple clients simultaneously and maintain clear priorities without constant escalationDeep working knowledge of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) design and rollout, motor carrier vetting and onboarding, risk management and loss control, and contractual liability and exposure managementFull professional English proficiencyProven experience building process frameworks and risk structures, not only operating within existing onesBased in the United States with work authorization, and able to travel 15 to 20 percent for client visits and industry conferencesConfidence working directly with clients and executives, with the credibility to influence changePreferredCertifications in logistics, transportation, or risk managementDirect experience handling real-world risk events, including:Operational breakdowns and execution failuresComplex contractual disputesCrisis response and rapid scalingCargo theft and security exposuresLarge-loss events and high-value verdictsRegulatory fines and penaltiesTransportation Management System (TMS) failuresMargin compressionAbility to advise and support an underwriting team with operational and risk insightWorking knowledge of logistics management systems, carrier databases, and standard data tools such as Excel or similar platforms, plus Microsoft Outlook and WordBenefitsBase salary: $240,000 to $280,000 per yearAdditional annual bonus22 days of paid leave401(k) with retirement plan supportHealthcare coveragePaid parental leaveWellness stipendFull benefits packageLocation and TravelOpen to location: onsite, hybrid, or fully remote for a candidate with the discipline to work independentlyUS-based essentialTravel of 15 to 20 percentEqual Employment Opportunity and Non-Discrimination PolicyEqual Employment Opportunity Statement: Both Keller Executive Search and our clients are Equal Opportunity Employers.
