Opportunity at a Glance - Clinical Academy of Teaching & Learning - Teaching AssistantRemote - US Based * Must be a recent RUSM Graduate and eligible to work in the USAAs a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Clinical Academy of Teaching & Learning (cATL), you will assist senior faculty in all areas of board preparation and academic success support provided to students who are in their last two years of their medical school journey. Reporting directly to the Director of cATL, the Teaching Assistant will support the delivery of individualized tutoring, schedule regular individual academic advising sessions, present NBME MCQ reviews in large-group tutoring sessions, and provide mentorship of clinical students. The role will also include providing general academic support for the Clinical Academy of Teaching & Learning (cATL) for Steps 1 and 2 CK consistently for about 20 to 30 students on a weekly basis.Teaching Assistants will spend most of their time coaching students in one-on-one and group tutoring sessions and working as a team to carry out the academic content provided to students. You will be required to assist with large group interactive learning activities under the guidance of the Academic Student Support Coordinator. You will be assigned projects for continual improvement on the delivery of board preparation services. You will also be assigned a group of 20 to 30 students as they prepare to take their Step 1 exam after their successful completion of the last medical sciences semester and help them achieve their Step 1 goal.The TeamThe Clinical Academy of Teaching & Learning (cATL) mission is to help students achieve a solid foundation in the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to succeed in subsequent core clinical clerkships and in the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) exams. We are designed to provide students with board exam preparation support by helping them develop a study strategy, identify the best study resources, create a timeline and cultivate skills to increase their chances of achieving their target Step exam scoresEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe ideal applicant will be able to engage, mentor, and assist in coaching a diverse student body, as well as work closely and cohesively in a team under the instruction and supervision of the Director and senior faculty. To this aim, she/he must possess excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and public speaking skills. It is also important the Teaching Assistant be self-directed and able to work effectively as a member of a team. Strong candidates for this role should be motivated by working on complex, ever-evolving initiatives that are student driven.Requirements/SkillsAssist in the instruction of essential skills for OSCE/standardized patient formative and summative exercises in the RUSM Step 1 preparatory courses.Academic support will consist of at least one-hour weekly tutoring sessions to support Academic Advisor’s recommended study strategy, content review, and test taking skills, as well as monitor the progress and improvement of students toward their Step exam goal.Serve as mentors to a cohort of students, by maintaining close communication with each student and providing guidance in all aspects of their performance.Engage in weekly step 1 progress support outreach calls as the need arises.Participate in faculty development courses and activities, such as, the faculty senate.Attend training sessions to become competent in tutoring and assessment skills.Work independently and collaboratively with a team by developing and cultivating relationships and networks to achieve results.Create student academic resources with the senior faculty to enhance the student experience, such as, presentations, videos, and electronics resources.Act as a point of contact for students via phone/email – give problem solving assistance to student questionsCompletes other duties as assigned by the Director.Preferred ExperienceTeaching and/or tutoring experience in a healthcare related fieldMentoring or advising experience in academic settingLeadership experience in student co-curricular activitiesPrior work experience in a team environment and healthcare setting (e.g. paramedic, scribe, simulation tech)Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office (specifically, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)Experience with prioritizing while under pressure in an independent work environmentStrong academic performance in the RUSM curriculum and USMLE licensing exams preferredApproach to WorkDeep commitment to the Clinical Academy of Teaching & Learning’s (cATL) mission and our commitment to an exceptional student experienceExceptional initiative and solutions orientation in the face of complex problems; acts with purpose, urgency, high standards, and a long-term viewExhibits integrity while working 100% remotelyComfortable operating in environments of changeThrives on feedback and willing to continually learn, improve, an
