Job Description

These platforms leverage agent-based architectures, automation, and AI-driven capabilities to enable intent-driven interaction with systems such as network operations and enterprise processes.As a mid-level Software Engineer, you will be a hands-on contributor building backend services, intelligent agents, and automation workflows that power these platforms. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team of software engineers, systems engineers, ISSEs, and security professionals, collaborating in GitHub to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant AI-enabled solutions.This role is ideal for a developer who is excited about treating systems, automation, and knowledge as code—from infrastructure and deployment pipelines to agent behavior, workflows, and even operational or business logic. You enjoy working with AI and LLMs, building agents that reason and act, and expressing complex intent declaratively through version-controlled artifacts that can be tested, reviewed, and evolved over time.Primary ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain backend services and microservices that support intelligent, agent-based platformsBuild and integrate autonomous or semi-autonomous agents that interact with technical and business systemsDevelop AI-enabled workflows leveraging LLMs for decision support, automation, analysis, and system interactionImplement APIs and orchestration logic that enable agents and services to collaborate effectivelyImplement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to provision and manage cloud environmentsCollaborate with systems engineers and ISSEs to translate requirements and security controls into codeContribute to GitHub-based development workflows, including pull requests, code reviews, and documentationSupport CI/CD pipelines and secure deployments aligned with ATO requirementsProduce clear technical documentation covering code, agent behavior, and system interactionsContribute to an “everything as code” approach, expressing infrastructure, automation, agent behavior, workflows, and operational artifacts as version-controlled, testable codeRequired Skills and ExperienceMust have and maintain a Secret security clearance.BS degree and 4+ years of professional software development experienceProficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python preferred; Java or Go acceptable)Experience building backend services, APIs, or microservicesExposure to AI/ML systems, LLMs, or intelligent automation (through professional work or applied projects)Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and toolingExperience working in GitHub with collaborative development practicesAbility to operate effectively in environments with evolving or ambiguous requirementsPreferred QualificationsExperience building or orchestrating agents, workflows, or autonomous systemsFamiliarity with LLM integration patterns (prompting, tools/functions, retrieval, etc.)Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS GovCloud preferred)Experience developing AI-enabled systems in regulated or secure environmentsExperience applying “as code” approaches beyond infrastructure (e.g., configuration-as-code, policy-as-code, workflows-as-code, documentation-as-code)SMITIf you're looking for comfort, keep scrolling.
