Job Description SummaryJob DescriptionResponsible for leading and coordinating all technical aspects of the Power Transformers and reactors for large and complex substation projects. As a recognized transformer and reactor subject matter expert, be the power transformers SME for the GSI NAM region.Own the technical validation / supplier qualification (Internal and External) with respect to the program/project application. Develop detailed power transformer technical specifications supporting the best purchase in terms of technical, commercial, and availability factors (among others), and minimizing risks due to change orders with complete & clear scope description. Assess the technical competencies and capabilities of the supplier to ensure we partner with the best vendor. To be the gate keeper of technical offers received and, in accordance with our legal and compliance procedures, to protect the information shared, to evaluate and validate the offers, and advise on the best technical offer to meet NAM industry standards, the project specifications, and customer requirements. Actively identify areas of opportunity for specification and bidding simplification / optimization to ensure we define clearly the requirements. Also provide the suppliers to propose the best alternatives & product, with support for technical discussion and exchange of ideas. Participate in the ITO design reviews and Tender Validation Meetings (TVM’s) to ensure the Region offers the best technical solution and utilize Return of Experience from past projects. Ensure effective involvement of technical tendering and OTR Engineering at ITO phase Participate in defining the budget at tendering phase and anticipate / analyse potential Budget deviation (increase or decrease) related to transformers and system integration including protection, SCADA, monitoring equipment, and installation. Support GSI NPI programs and remain abreast of market intelligence & transformer technology industry advancements to advise on our sourcing strategy and products required. Provide Lessons Learned and Return of Experience into the Tendering phase and support quality through OTR execution, updating our process and sharing improvements with the relevant supplier Continuous quality improvements must ensure any COPQ events do not reoccur Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions, and processes at the Grid Solutions and region level.Report or resolve any non-conformances to process or equipment in a timely manner Own and validate Inspection & Test Plans to ensure they are comprehensive and cover all necessary tests and inspections. Regularly review and update ITPs to reflect any changes in project scope or client requirements Own and validate Root Cause Analysis for Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance tests, & site failures Role requires deep familiarity of all aspects of transformer/reactor manufacturing processes Role requires thorough knowledge and application of applicable codes and transformers specifications for North America including IEEE, IEC, ANSI, ASME, etc. Monitor and audit transformer supplier’s quality including resolving non conformances Attend manufacturing stage inspections and FAT to ensure specifications are met. Be present at the supplier’s location as needed during key manufacturing stage inspections Observe the manufacturing processes to ensure they align with the ITPs and project requirements Provide real-time feedback to suppliers to address any discrepancies or issues to ensure high quality equipment shipped on time. Works with Service teams to recommend proactive maintenance tasks to Transformer and reactor equipment to mitigate recurring problems and potential failures. Provides field support for troubleshooting, adjustment, repair, and replacement of Transformer, reactors, and other ancillary components Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college (BSEE strongly preferred). Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Transmission & Distribution substation engineering for electric utilities. Proven Track record of Transformer design, manufacturing and field experience. Strong Knowledge of HV equipment for GIS/AIS substations. Able and willing to travel 20% including international and comply with GE travel guidelines. Desired Characteristics:Master’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering In depth experience applying High Voltage substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE & ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and the NESC.), local Grid Codes, and related equipment (safety, application, sizing and integration). Moreover, the ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided. Strong knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) project execution. Professional Engineering license in the United States (or demonstrating
