This involves continuous iteration and experimentation to provide the best possible journey for each type of user.Order Management and Integrity: Horizon acts as the source of truth for user orders, ensuring their accuracy and reliability. The team handles critical processes such as order creation, autopilot selection, and delivery eligibility based on user addresses, guaranteeing a seamless experience from selection to fulfillment.By combining a strong user experience focus with backend robustness, Horizon plays a vital role in shaping the way users interact with CookUnity and ensuring operational stability across the platform.The Role:As a Staff Full Stack Engineer on the Horizons Squad, you will play a crucial role in leading technical initiatives, driving architectural decisions, and mentoring engineers as we scale our user experiences. You’ll work on building and optimizing backend services and APIs that power CookUnity’s experience. This role involves working on the Server-Driven UI (SDUI) service within our Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) architecture, as well as developing and maintaining backend services and databases.This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who thrives on complexity and enjoys designing scalable, resilient, and high-performing backend systems. You will collaborate closely with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams—including Data teams—to build and improve mission-critical infrastructure that enables personalized user experiences across our platform.We’re looking for someone who can bring strong system design expertise, lead projects from concept to deployment, and set a high technical bar for the team while driving forward best practices in software engineering.Responsibilities:Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend services that power CookUnity’s personalization systemsDefine and drive architectural improvements that enhance system reliability, scalability, and maintainabilityCollaborate cross-functionally with Product and Data teams to provide our users tailor-made content that adjust to their needsMentor and guide other engineers, setting a high standard for technical excellence and a culture of proactive ownershipEvaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, AI adoptions that improve our backend stack and development velocityImprove system observability, performance, and resilience, ensuring uptime and smooth operation of revenue-critical systemsContribute as a hands-on engineer, writing clean, well-tested, and efficient code, leading by exampleLead technical planning and project execution, breaking down complex problems into manageable solutions and driving initiatives to on-time completionMinimum Requirements:8+ years of experience in full stack/backend software development, with expertise in React, Kotlin, TypeScript, and SQL databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL)Proven experience in architecting and scaling complex backend systems in a high-growth, fast-paced environmentStrong knowledge of distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, and event-driven architectureDeep understanding of system performance and scalability best practicesProven ability to translate complex, ambiguous requirements into clear, actionable plans that drive alignment and timely deliveryAdvanced English communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiencesDemonstrated experience in mentoring and guiding engineersFluency with AI engineering tools.Ideal Requirements:Experience with DevOps tools and cloud platforms, including Docker, Kubernetes, and AWSExperience with React Native.Learn More About CookUnityWe believe great leadership starts with alignment on vision, values, and ways of working.
