Job Description
**Administrative Manager – Nonprofit Operations \& Compliance**
Safe Shelter is hiring a full\-time Administrative Manager to help build and maintain the administrative, financial, HR, compliance, and reporting infrastructure needed for a growing nonprofit shelter and housing organization.
This is not a basic clerical or office assistant role. This is a leadership\-level administrative and operations position for someone who can manage details, build systems, follow through independently, and help Safe Shelter remain organized, compliant, financially accountable, and responsive to the needs of staff, funders, guests, and community partners.
**About Safe Shelter**
Safe Shelter provides shelter and housing services in Western North Carolina, with a focus on families who would otherwise have to separate, people who face barriers to shelter access, and those who have historically been underserved. Our model is rooted in trauma\-informed care, Housing First principles, lived experience, community collaboration, and the belief that everyone deserves dignity, stability, and a path toward housing.
Safe Shelter has grown from a volunteer\-led effort into an independent nonprofit with more than 25 staff members, multiple funding streams, and increasing regulatory, reporting, financial, HR, and compliance responsibilities. The Administrative Manager will play a key role in making sure the organization has the systems needed to sustain this growth.
**Position Summary**
The Administrative Manager is a core infrastructure role responsible for supporting the day\-to\-day administrative operations of Safe Shelter. This position will help manage financial tracking, payroll and benefits administration, grant and contract compliance, reporting, HR coordination, onboarding, personnel documentation, internal systems, and audit\-ready recordkeeping.
Safe Shelter receives funding from local, state, federal, philanthropic, and community\-based sources. Many of these funds carry significant compliance and documentation requirements. The Administrative Manager must be comfortable learning new funder requirements, attending webinars and trainings, asking funders clarifying questions, translating requirements into usable internal systems, and helping staff follow those systems consistently.
This position is best suited for someone who enjoys creating order out of complexity, can manage multiple deadlines at once, and takes ownership of problems until they are solved. The right candidate will be able to work independently, communicate clearly, follow up persistently, and help Safe Shelter build systems that support public accountability, living\-wage employment, staff stability, and long\-term organizational sustainability.
