This is a hands-on role combining technical depth, leadership, and strategic thinking to build a secure and high-performing platform.Responsibilities:Leadership & Team Development:Lead and mentor a team of Platform and Security EngineersFoster a high-performance engineering culture focused on ownership, reliability, and continuous improvementProvide hands-on technical guidance while empowering the team to execute independentlyPartner closely with Engineering, Product, and Leadership teams to align platform strategy with business goalsPlatform & Infrastructure:Own and evolve our cloud infrastructure on GCPDrive adoption and maturity of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)Lead the design, implementation, and scaling of Kubernetes (GKE) environmentsChampion GitOps practices using ArgoCD and HelmBuild and maintain reliable CI/CD pipelines using GitLab/GitHub and CI automation toolsObservability & Reliability:Establish best practices for monitoring, logging, and alertingImprove system reliability, performance, and incident response processesDefine and track platform SLIs/SLOsSecurity & Compliance:Embed security into every stage of the development lifecycle, coordinating different security automation toolsLead efforts around SOC 2 Type II compliance and other relevant regulationsDrive privacy-by-design principles across systems and processesLead external engagement with predominantly US-based clients on security, compliance, and privacy practices, ensuring alignment with enterprise expectations and regulatory standardsAutomation & Engineering Excellence:Promote and implement the “Everything as Code” mindset across infrastructure, security, and operationsContinuously improve developer experience through tooling and self-service platformsIdentify and remove bottlenecks in engineering workflowsRequirementsAround 8 years of experience in Platform Engineering, including 3 years in leadership rolesStrong hands-on experience with Terraform (Infrastructure as Code), Kubernetes, GCP or other major cloud providers, ArgoCD and Helm, GitLab/GitHub and CI/CD automationExperience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry or the LGTM stackDeep understanding of DevOps, GitOps, and platform engineering principlesExperience in security engineering and automation practices like, SAST, container security, configuration management or WAF setupsSolid understanding of compliance frameworks (especially SOC 2 Type II and GDPR)Experience implementing privacy-by-design and secure-by-default systemsExperience working in fast-paced startup or scale-up environmentsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in clear, professional English to non-technical stakeholders and clients.Benefits💻 Remote-first within our hubs: TROOP operates remotely with frequent in-person engagements, focusing on scaling within our legal entities in Spain, South Africa and the US.🚀Join the Pioneering Team: As part of the initial team at TROOP, you'll be at the forefront of an extraordinary adventure.
