This is a remote position.Pay Range: $22.47 – $24.32 per hour + Health & Welfare (H&W): $5.09 per hourRequiring Activity: VHAContract Period: 03/01/2026 – 08/31/2026Positions: 5 Full-TimeService Contract Act: YesJob DescriptionThe Medical Records Technician (ROI) will support Release of Information operations at the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System. Responsibilities include processing requests for Protected Health Information (PHI), validating authorization, retrieving and releasing records, logging requests, and maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA, the Privacy Act, VHA policies, and federal guidelines.Technicians must ensure accuracy in release of information and adherence to national standards, including those established by CMS, AMA CPT, ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, and all applicable VHA/VA policies and credentialing requirements (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCS‑P). The technician must safeguard PHI at all times, interact professionally with veterans, legal representatives, and agencies, and maintain high customer service and turnaround standards.​ RequirementsRequired Certifications: CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC or CCS-PPrior experience performing Release of Information (ROI) servicesKnowledge of HIPAA, Privacy Act requirements, and medical confidentiality rulesUnderstanding of CMS, AMA CPT, ICD‑10-CM/PCS standards, and VHA/VA complianceAbility to validate and process PHI disclosure requestsExperience with EHR systems; VA VistA/CPRS preferredStrong communication and customer service skillsAbility to meet VHA credentialing and security clearance requirementsReferences Required:Provide three (3) references from your most recent roles.
