Job Description

**Title:** Nighttime Dispatcher **Location:** Houston, Texas (supports all terminals by phone; **not a remote job**; no travel) **Schedule:** Evening/Overnight shift (8pm\-6am; 10 hr shifts Monday \- Friday) **Employment Type:** Full\-time **ABOUT THE ROLE:** Join LCG Freight’s 24/7 dispatch team supporting **Norfolk, VA; Charleston, SC; Savannah, GA; Jacksonville, FL; and Houston, TX**. While you’ll assist with **evening calls from all terminals**, this position is **physically based only in Houston**. It’s a great introduction to logistics: you’ll answer calls, **communicate clearly with drivers**, handle **standard load questions and basic equipment troubleshooting questions** per company manual, perform yard checks, and operate the yard gate for drivers coming and going. **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:** * **Answer and log all calls** during the evening/overnight shift; resolve routine issues and **document everything**. * **Work directly with drivers**: give clear directions, confirm appointments/gate codes, provide simple step\-by\-step guidance for **basic maintenance questions**, and follow up to close the loop. * **Escalate appropriately**: if an issue is outside the checklist or becomes complex, **contact the on\-call manager** with a concise written summary. * **Perform scheduled yard checks** (visual inspections, equipment notes, anomalies) and record findings in the system. * **Open/close the yard gate** for driver traffic and verify entries/exits per procedure. * **Paperless shift handoff:** compile a concise **digital shift report** and **email** it to the appropriate terminal contacts at shift end. **What Success Looks Like:** * **Zero missed or unreturned calls** and complete electronic logs. * Drivers feel supported: clear instructions, timely updates, and respectful, professional interactions. * Complex issues **escalated quickly** with clean notes for leadership. * Yard checks completed on time; **smooth, safe gate operations**. * Thorough **shift\-change emails** that enable the next shift to start strong. **Must\-Haves:** * **Excellent communication skills**: clear, calm phone presence; active listening; respectful, driver\-first approach; accurate written summaries. * **Proven ability to work well with drivers**—patient, professional, and solutions\-focused, including during stressful situations. * **Strong computer skills** (we are **paperless**): fast, accurate typing; disciplined digital note\-taking; professional **email** etiquette; able to learn dispatch/TMS tools (training provided). * **Reliable attendance** and punctuality; comfortable **working alone** at night on\-site. * Ability to move around the yard and work outdoors in varying weather to conduct yard checks daily. * Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background screenings. **Nice to Have:** * Experience in dispatch, transportation, intermodal/drayage, or yard operations. * Familiarity with ELDs, TMS platforms, or **basic equipment troublesho
