About JerseySTEMAll JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.OverviewThis is a pro-bono position.Lead team of 3-4 volunteers to develop and/or acquire as well as improve Engineering STEM Outreach Program curriculum to be delivered to middle school girls (grades 5-8) who are in underserved communities. (The Outreach Programs are typically delivered as after-school programs following a fall/spring semester schedule.)ResponsibilitiesLead team of 3-4 volunteers to:Provide direction and coaching to your team, build team spirit!Develop new and interesting STEM curriculum, and update existing curriculumReach out to content providers for potential partnershipProduce materials for both Coaches and students to use in the afterschool programsProduce extracts of the Curriculum to fit the needs of the classAnswer Coach questions, and provide advice on curriculum content deliveryLeverage technology for innovative ways to deliver curriculumUse feedback from ongoing classes to improve/enhance existing curriculumQualificationsBS and strong background in engineering fieldExperience delivering middle school curriculum a plusStrong written and verbal communications skillsAble to adapt and solve problems as they ariseWilling to volunteer advice and opinionTime Commitment3-6 Hours weekly6 months minimumOriginally posted on Himalayas
