Position Overview
We are seeking a qualified Hopi linguist to support research-related translation projects, including materials used in human subjects research. This role requires high linguistic accuracy, cultural competency, and the ability to deliver certified translations suitable for formal academic and research environments.This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity with flexible, project-based assignments.Key Responsibilities
Translate written materials between English and HopiEnsure translations are accurate, complete, culturally appropriate, and research-readyTranslate documents such as:Informed consent formsRecruitment and outreach materialsParticipant-facing research documentsStudy protocols and questionnairesIncorporate revisions based on reviewer or subject-matter feedbackParticipate in back-translation or validation steps when requestedDeliver translations with a signed Certificate or Affidavit of AccuracyMaintain strict confidentiality and secure handling of sensitive materialsMeet agreed-upon turnaround times (typically 1–2 weeks per project)
RequirementsCertification Requirement
Each translation must include a signed Certificate or Affidavit of AccuracyCertification applies to the translation itself, not to holding a professional credentialProfessional certifications (e.g., ATA) are not requiredRequired Qualifications
Demonstrated fluency and strong literacy in Hopi and EnglishExperience translating formal, academic, legal, medical, or research-related contentStrong understanding of cultural and linguistic nuances within Hopi communitiesExcellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracyAbility to meet deadlines and respond professionally to revision requestsPreferred Qualifications
