We’d love to talk.Who you are:As Counsel, Business Services at Hometap, you'll serve as the primary legal partner for our vendor relationships, technology agreements, and commercial transactions that power our business operations. You'll collaborate with stakeholders across the company—including Product, Engineering, Operations, IT, Finance, Marketing, and Procurement—to negotiate and structure commercial arrangements that enable Hometap to scale efficiently while managing legal and regulatory risk.A strong candidate will have experience in consumer financial services or fintech, deep expertise in commercial contracts and technology agreements, excellent judgment in balancing legal risks with business needs, and a proven ability to work independently while supporting multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. You'll thrive in this role if you're a practical, business-minded attorney who can move quickly, communicate clearly, and build strong cross-functional relationships.What you'll do:Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts including vendor agreements, technology agreements (SaaS, cloud services, software licenses), professional services agreements, marketing and advertising contracts, and supplier arrangementsPartner with Procurement, IT, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Finance teams to structure commercial relationships that support business objectives while managing legal and regulatory riskReview and analyze powers of attorney and trust documents to ensure proper authorization for homeowner transactions; advise Investment Support and Operations on POA validity, trust administration, and successor trustee mattersProvide day-to-day legal advice to business teams on operational and legal questions across a wide range of topics; serve as accessible legal resource for stakeholders across departmentsSupport third-party risk management (TPRM) by assessing legal and regulatory risks in vendor relationships; ensure commercial agreements comply with consumer financial services regulationsSupport Legal Operations function with contract management system implementation, template development, and process optimizationAssist with litigation matters, commercial disputes, real estate and facilities matters, regulatory examinations, and special projects as neededWhat you bring:J.D. degree from accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing4-6 years of relevant legal experience at a top law firm, in-house legal department, or combination of bothExperience in consumer financial services, fintech, mortgage lending, or highly regulated consumer-facing industry requiredStrong background in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts including vendor agreements, technology agreements (SaaS, cloud services, software licenses), professional services agreements, and marketing contractsUnderstanding of consumer financial services regulatory landscape (e.g., UDAP/UDAAP, FCRA, state consumer protection laws) and how regulations impact commercial arrangementsExcellent contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills with strong understanding of commercial terms, risk allocation, liability provisions, indemnification, and warrantiesIntellectual curiosity with fluency in translating legal advice into actionable guidance for business teams; excellent judgment in balancing legal risk with business strategyAbility to work independently and manage multiple projects, negotiations, and stakeholders simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environmentStrong organizational and project management skills with comfort navigating ambiguity and evolving business prioritiesExperience working effectively with cross-functional teams; strong ability to build trusted relationships and credibility across all levels of the organizationExcellent written and verbal communication skills; collaborative working style with commitment to supporting team success and leading w
