About JerseySTEMAll JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.OverviewThis is a pro-bono volunteer position.The Engagement Specialist is responsible for fostering connection, commitment, and retention across JerseySTEM’s volunteer community. This role focuses on building strong relationships, improving the member experience, and ensuring volunteers feel informed, valued, and aligned with JerseySTEM’s mission. ResponsibilitiesDesign member engagement strategies to increase volunteer satisfaction, retention, and long-term commitmentServe as the main point of contact for members experience and engagement initiativesRun regular engagement touchpoints such as onboarding sessions, check-ins, feedback loops, and community meetingsPartner with department heads to ensure consistent communication and engagement practices across teamsIdentify engagement risks (disengagement, burnout, drop-off) and proactively address themPromote a culture of belonging, transparency, collaboration, and appreciationDevelop engagement programs, rituals, and recognition initiativesCollect feedback from members and translate insights into actionable improvementsEnsure engagement documentation, guidelines, and best practices are clearly defined and sharedQualifications2+ years of experience with engagement projectsExcellent communication skills, written and verbalHighly organized, proactive, and people-orientedAbility to influence without authority and collaborate across departmentsSense of urgency and ownership: engagement issues are addressed quicklyExperience in HR, People Operations, Community Management, or Volunteer Management is a plusCommitment: 6 hours per week for 6 months.This is a pro-bono position.Originally posted on Himalayas
