CONTROLLER for Marketing Agency ClientsLocation: 100% RemoteWork Hours: Either (5:00 AM - 1:00 PM PST) or (1:00 PM to 9PM PST)The Good CFO is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to support our media, advertising, and marketing agency clients with accounting and finance operations. In this role, you will oversee essential functions such as general accounting, accounts payable, billing, and financial reporting. This is a client-facing position that requires exceptional communication skills, a strong understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.As a Controller, you will be responsible for supporting clients with accounting and finance activities including general accounting, accounts payable, and billing. Duties and Responsibilities:Finance and AdministrationDocument, maintain and seek to continually improve company policies, procedures, and valuesPrepare bank deposits and/or record client paymentsSupport the month-end close process including account reconciliations and revenue recognitionMaintain cash flow reportsSupport CFO with the development of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and monthly management reportsSupport ongoing cost management effortsSupport ongoing reporting and forecasting needsManage fixed asset and depreciation schedulesAccountingMaintain and update all accounting records and filesMaintain the company’s chart of accountsEstablish and ensure compliance with internal controlsEstablish and ensure compliance with accounting policies and proceduresSupport timely and accurate month-end and year-end close process including all account reconciliations and preparation of journal entriesPrepare documents for auditsAccounts PayableOversee accounts payableMaintain A/P vendor master fileOversee vendor onboardingObtain W-9s from vendorsProcess all vendor invoices in Bill.com (or similar tools)Ensure timely payment of approved expenses in Bill.com (or similar tools)Complete and file annual 1096/1099 formsReview and approve Expensify reports (or similar tools)Respond to vendor & staff requests regarding vendor paymentsBillingOversee all invoicing, collections, accounts receivable and revenue recognitionSet up all client and project codes in all systemsSet up and train employees on time tracking systemPrepare weekly and monthly WIP, client, and project profitability reports and analysisRespond to client & staff requests regarding client billingCreate client and production budgets & budget templatesAnalyze production and post-production time spent on each projectQualificationsCPA or equivalent credentialsMinimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including for a U.S. based accounting/bookkeeping firm doing accounting for their clientsExperience working with a marketing agency or professional services firm with time and expense billing is requiredKnow what GAAP and the matching principle areHave experience interacting with vendors and clientsExtremely tech savvy and experienced with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and QuickBooks OnlineExcellent written and verbal communication skills; this is a client-facing position and they will be communicating with our client and their staffWould thrive in a busy, exciting, startup environmentLove accomplishing tasksVery detailed orientedHave enthusiasm and excitement about your life and your careerPrefer being self-directed in your workHave a strong desire to work for a company that you believe inWhy Join Us?The Good CFO is a one-stop, full-stack finance and HR operations partner to media, entertainment, and advertising firms.
