The team of over 1400 employees includes more than 400 highly skilled engineers with deep expertise across hardware and software engineering, as well as an in-house AI R&D team.The role: We are looking for an Optical & IP Transport Engineer (DWDM/IP) to own the design, deployment, and operation of large-scale optical transport networks supporting high-density, latency-sensitive infrastructure. You will work at the intersection of DWDM systems and IP/MPLS layers, ensuring reliable packet delivery across long-haul and metro fiber networks.This role requires deep understanding of optical physics and packet transport, with hands-on responsibility for production networks. You will be involved in end-to-end lifecycle management—from planning and turn-up to troubleshooting complex cross-layer issues impacting performance and availability. The position demands strong diagnostic capabilities, automation-driven operations, and the ability to operate close to the hardware in mission-critical environments.Your responsibilities will include:Design, deploy, and operate DWDM-based transport networks across long-haul and metro environmentsPerform wavelength provisioning, optical power tuning, and amplification design (EDFA/Raman) to ensure optimal link performanceTroubleshoot cross-layer issues spanning optical transport and IP/MPLS networks, including packet loss, latency, and signal degradationExecute fiber characterization and fault isolation using OTDR, OSA, and BERT tools across various span distancesWork directly with production platforms (Ciena, Infinera, ADVA) for provisioning, upgrades, and incident resolutionDevelop and maintain Python-based automation for optical health checks, telemetry ingestion, and inventory synchronizationParticipate in network expansions and hardware deployments, including on-site support for critical rollouts and auditsCollaborate with IP engineering teams to ensure alignment between optical transport and routing layersDrive root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to improve fleet-wide reliability and performanceWhat we expect you to have:Strong expertise in DWDM systems, including wavelength routing, optical amplification (EDFA/Raman), and dispersion management in long-haul networksSolid understanding of IP/MPLS fundamentals, including routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, or IS-IS, and MPLS signalingHands-on experience with production optical platforms such as Ciena (6500/Waveserver), Infinera, or ADVAProficiency in Python for automation of operational workflows and network validation tasksExperience using optical diagnostic tools (OTDR, OSA, BERT) for fiber analysis and troubleshootingAbility to debug packet-over-optical issues across layers with precision and speedWillingness to travel to data center and network sites across the US/EU for deployments and auditsIt will be an added bonus if you have:Experience with Linux-based network management systems and streaming telemetry for optical monitoringBackground in network modernization projects, including migrations from 100G to 400G/800G architecturesFamiliarity with Segment Routing (SR-MPLS or SRv6) and its interaction with optical transport performanceWorking conditions:Remote role based in the United StatesTravel required for on-site deployments and physical-layer auditsKey employee benefits:Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision)401(k) plan with company contributionGenerous paid time off and sick leavePaid parental leaveFlexible working hoursProfessional development supportCompensation:Base salary: $125,000 – $180,000 per yearPerformance-based bonus includedWhat we offerCompetitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.Opportunities for professional growth within Nebius.Flexible working arrangements.A dynamic and collaborative work environment that values initiative and innovation.We’re growing and expanding our products every day.
