Role Overview We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Director of Engineering Java to lead drive the end-to-end delivery of a critical product. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership, requiring the ability to architect scalable systems, lead globally distributed teams, and deliver high-quality software in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader who can operate at both strategic and execution levels — driving architecture, mentoring teams, and ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across onshore and offshore teams.This role is ideal for a senior engineering leader who wants to combine hands-on technical depth with ownership of product delivery and team leadership and play a key role in building and scaling a modern, cloud-native platform.Key ResponsibilitiesProduct & Delivery OwnershipOwn end-to-end delivery of a product, including architecture, development, performance, and scalabilityDrive execution across multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring timely and high-quality releasesCollaborate closely with Product Management to define roadmaps, prioritize features, and provide accurate estimatesLeadership & ArchitectureBuild, lead, and scale high-performing engineering teams across onshore and offshore locationsArchitect, design, and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance applications using modern Java frameworksDefine and enforce best practices for system design, coding standards, and performance optimizationLead modernization efforts, including microservices architecture, API-first design, and cloud-native developmentEnsure adherence to security standards and best practices (e.g., OWASP)Proactively identify and reduce technical debt, including upgrading frameworks and third-party librariesRequired Skills & Experience12+ years of experience in Java development, with strong hands-on expertiseExtensive experience with modern Java frameworks:Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring SecurityStrong experience in microservices architecture and distributed systemsDeep expertise in building and consuming APIs:REST, JSON, SOAPStrong experience with:Hibernate / JPAJava design patterns (DAO, Factory, etc.)Strong experience with RDBMS and NoSQL databasesStrong experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS):EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, etc.Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines:Jenkins, Git-based workflowsExperience working in Agile/Scrum environmentsPreferred SkillsExperience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, messaging systems)Exposure to frontend technologies (JavaScript frameworks)Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes (EKS)Experience with performance testing and large-scale data processing systemsLeadership & Behavioral CompetenciesProven ability to lead and manage distributed/global teamsStrong ownership mindset — ability to operate independently and drive outcomesExcellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholdersAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with competing prioritiesStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailPassion for innovation, continuous learning, and improving engineering practicesWorking Conditions/Physical Demands:This position is fully remote (U.S. only), with limited travel that may be required for occasional team meetings, training sessions, or business events. Work is performed primarily in a home-office environment using standard office equipment such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, and phone. Employees are expected to maintain a safe, ergonomic, and confidential workspace with reliable high-speed internet access suitable for professional remote work.The role generally requires extended periods of sitting, viewing a computer screen, and communicating through written and verbal means.
