Accounting Specialist – Short-Term Rental Accounting

MJN Accounting is seeking a detail\-oriented employee to support our Accounting Manager and accounting team. We specialize exclusively in accounting for short\-term vacation rental management companies. This is an accounting position, not an administrative or basic data\-entry role. Strong accounting knowledge is required. Experience with trust accounting, fund accounting, property management accounting, or hospitality accounting is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right person on the specifics of short\-term rental trust accounting. WHAT YOU'LL DO * **Support the Accounting Manager with day\-to\-day client accounting**Complete bank and credit card reconciliations * **Assist with trust account reconciliations** Reconcile balance sheet, clearing, and liability accounts * **Review and categorize financial transactions** Assist with month\-end close procedures * **Research and resolve accounting discrepancies** Assist with owner and manager disbursement reconciliations * **Review reservation and property\-level financial activity** Compare information between property management systems, banks, payment processors, and QuickBooks * **Assist with accounts payable and vendor transactions** Assist with sales and lodging tax accounting * **Prepare reconciliation support and documentation** Identify discrepancies and communicate findings to the Accounting Manager * **Follow established accounting procedures and meet assigned deadlines** **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** * Previous accounting or bookkeeping experience * **Strong understanding of accounting principles** * Understanding of debits and credits * **Experience with bank and account reconciliations** * Understanding of Balance Sheets and Profit \& Loss statements * **Ability to research and identify accounting discrepancies** * Strong attention to detail * **Strong computer and technology skills** * Ability to learn new software quickly * **Ability to work independently while taking direction from the Accounting Manager** * Strong organizational and time\-management skills * **Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** * QuickBooks Online experience * **Trust or fund accounting experience** * Property management or hospitality accounting experience * **Short\-term vacation rental accounting experience** * Strong Microsoft Excel skills * **Experience working across multiple accounting or financial systems** **SOFTWARE \& TECHNOLOGY** **Our clients use multiple systems, so you must be very comfortable with technology and able to learn unfamiliar software quickly.
