Job DescriptionRequired Certificates and Licenses: Michigan Teaching Certification Required. ACulinary Arts, Education, Hospitality, or related field certification. Ability to obtain a CTE CertificationResidency Requirements: Must reside in Michigan.The Culinary Arts Teacher provides engaging, hands-on instruction in cooking, food preparation, kitchen safety, and hospitality skills. This role prepares students for careers in the food service industry while supporting academic standards and real-world application.Start Date: SY 2026/2027This position offers a base salary around $47,000 plus the eligibility of a performance bonus.K12, a Stride Company, believes in Education for ANY ONE. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.Plan and deliver culinary arts curriculum aligned to state standards and CTE pathwaysTeach food preparation techniques, cooking methods, nutrition, and kitchen managementMaintain a safe, clean, and organized kitchen/classroom environmentInstruct students on food safety and sanitation (ServSafe or equivalent standards)Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and skill levelsAssess student progress using both practical (hands-on) and written evaluationsManage inventory, equipment, and food ordering within budgetIncorporate career exploration and industry connections (guest speakers, certifications, internships)Supervise students during labs and ensure proper use of equipmentCollaborate with staff on interdisciplinary projects (e.g., math, business, science connections)Communicate regularly with students, families, and school staffSupport school events or programs that involve culinary services (optional)REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Education, Hospitality, or related field (or equivalent experience)Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain CTE certification)Professional culinary or food service experience preferredKnowledge of food safety standards and kitchen operationsStrong classroom management and organizational skillsAbility to clear required background checkDESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:ServSafe Certification (Instructor/Manager)Experience in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programsBackground in restaurant, catering, or hospitality industryExperience working with high school studentsHands-on instructional ability and passion for culinary artsStrong communication and relationship-building skillsAbility to manage a fast-paced, active classroom environmentCreativity in lesson planning and student engagementCommitment to student success and career readinessCompensation & Benefits: Stride, Inc. considers a person’s education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value when determining a new employee’s salary level. Salaries will differ based on these factors, the position’s level and expected contribution, and the employee’s benefits elections.
