Join us to leverage cutting-edge innovation for impactful results and experience unparalleled support on your journey to success.Your future positionAs a Junior IUU Fishing Analyst, you will support expanding Kpler’s maritime risk capability through specialist analysis focused on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. You will help transform maritime datasets, behavioural indicators, and emerging algorithmic outputs into practical intelligence products, internal support, and client-facing insights. This role is designed to strengthen Kpler’s specialist coverage in maritime intelligence and support the integration of compliance and maritime risk analysis. This is consistent with the team’s wider strategy to integrate maritime intelligence with compliance insights and your documented internal discussions on using Research Labs fishing algorithms to develop an IUU-focused reporting stream.Key Responsibilities Monitor and analyse vessel behaviour and fisheries-related maritime activity indicative of potential IUU fishing risk.Support the development of draft reports, case studies, and recurring intelligence outputs focused on IUU fishing.Work with internal datasets, algorithmic outputs, and behavioural indicators to identify suspicious or anomalous patterns.Assist in validating and interpreting fisheries-related signals from maritime data sources.Collaborate with Research / Data Science and product-related stakeholders to improve analytical methods and use cases.Produce high-quality written outputs for internal teams, client support, and thought leadership.Support commercial teams with specialist fisheries-related intelligence where relevant.Track developments in fisheries monitoring, maritime enforcement, and related compliance risk themes.Escalate higher-risk or ambiguous cases to senior analysts and contribute to continuous improvement of methodologies.Experience & BackgroundEssential:2 years of experience in maritime analysis, fisheries monitoring, compliance, geospatial / intelligence analysis, or related fieldsStrong research and analytical writing capabilityAbility to work with large or complex datasets and detect behavioural patternsInterest in maritime security, fisheries governance, or non-traditional maritime riskDesirable:Exposure to IUU fishing, fisheries control, maritime domain awareness, or vessel monitoringFamiliarity with AIS, satellite-derived signals, geospatial intelligence, or anomaly detectionExperience supporting reporting, intelligence products, or investigative workflowsKnowledge of licensing, transshipment, or fisheries compliance conceptsSkills & CompetenciesTechnical / Functional Skills:Strong analytical reasoningAbility to interpret vessel behaviour and maritime patternsResearch and report-writing skillsComfort working with data, spreadsheets, and structured research workflowsAbility to connect technical findings to practical business or compliance implicationsBehavioural Competencies: Curiosity and investigative mindsetAttention to detailPersistence and critical thinkingCollaboration across technical and non-technical teamsClear communicationAdaptability in a developing workstreamQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Marine / Environmental Policy, Fisheries Management, International Relations, or another relevant fieldRelevant internships or research projects in fisheries / maritime monitoring would be valuableWe are a dynamic company dedicated to nurturing connections and innovating solutions to tackle market challenges head-on.
