Job Description
**Title:** Controller
**Company:** Kirk Elliott Precious Metals (KEPM)
**Location:** Remote
**Reports To:** CEO
**Pay:** starting at $140,000, commensurate with experience
**About KEPM**
Kirk Elliott Precious Metals (KEPM) is an industry leader in the precious metals space, helping clients protect and grow their wealth through physical gold and silver ownership. KEPM oversees approximately 100 million ounces of physical precious metals under management, representing roughly $8 billion in client assets. The company is faith\-forward, people\-first, and built on a client first approach in an industry that has too often put its own interests ahead of the people it serves.
KEPM is building the infrastructure and internal capabilities needed to position itself for continued growth, which is part of why this role exists now.
**Role Overview**
The Controller owns the accounting function at KEPM end to end, including daily operations, internal controls, payroll, accounts payable, regulatory and tax compliance, and audit readiness. This is not a support role. The Controller sets the standard for how the numbers get built, reviewed, and defended, and is the final word on accuracy before anything reaches leadership.
The ideal candidate has already operated at a senior level in accounting and is ready to take full accountability for the design of the controls environment, the integrity of the financial statements, and the relationship with external auditors. This individual will function as the architect building the accounting infrastructure the company needs as it scales. This is not a CFO level role, but it is the most senior accounting voice in the business today, and will be treated accordingly.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Design and own the internal controls environment across accounting, accounts payable, and payroll, setting policy rather than simply implementing it, and strengthening controls as the business scales.
* Oversee the accounts payable function in its entirety, including vendor payment processing, expense administration, and approval workflows.
* Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable state and federal wage and hour requirements.
* Own regulatory and tax compliance across multiple states, including sales tax nexus monitoring, filings, and the internal controls governing sales tax collection and remittance.
* Own the external audit relationship end to end, leading audit prep, serving as the primary point of contact for auditors, and ensuring documentation is complete and audit ready well in advance of deadlines.
* Partner directly with the CEO on the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting, taking ownership of the financial analysis that informs business decisions rather than supporting someone else's.
* Monitor evolving state level tax and regulatory requirements as KEPM's footprint expands, proactively flagging exposure and recommending action to leadership.
* Set acc
