OverviewWe are seeking a remote Senior Virtual Desktop Engineer to support and enhance enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in a government contracting environment. This role focuses on the engineering, automation, and sustainment of Citrix-based virtual desktop solutions integrated with AWS and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM).ResponsibilitiesThe ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop, strong scripting and automation skills, and experience operating in controlled, compliance-driven environments. This is a senior individual contributor role requiring extensive hands-on engineering experience rather than personnel management.Key Responsibilities:Engineer, maintain, and optimize Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (XenApp/XenDesktop) environmentsSupport enterprise VDI platforms in government or regulated environmentsDesign and implement automation for VDI provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle managementDevelop and maintain scripts and automation for system creation in Citrix and AWS environmentsIntegrate and support VDI solutions with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) for imaging, patching, application deployment, and complianceAdminister and troubleshoot Windows desktop and server operating systems used in virtual desktop environmentsSupport hybrid architectures integrating on-premises infrastructure with AWS servicesPerform advanced troubleshooting across OS, application, virtualization, network, and storage layersPerformance capacity and usage reporting to make recommendations for optimization and planningApply security hardening, access controls, and compliance requirements aligned with government standardsCreate and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and system diagramsParticipate in change management, patch cycles, and system sustainment activitiesQualificationsBachelor's with 12+ years of desktop engineering experience (or commensurate experience)7+ years of experience in virtual desktop engineering, end-user computing (EUC), or enterprise virtualizationStrong hands-on experience with Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop (Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops)Experience supporting and maintaining NetScaler and NetScaler ConsoleExperience supporting large-scale or mission-critical VDI environmentsStrong scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash)Demonstrated experience automating system builds and configurations in Citrix and AWSExperience working with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)Solid understanding of Windows Server and Windows Desktop operating systemsUnderstanding and experience with security and certificate managementExperience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity servicesFamiliarity with operating in government contracting or compliance-driven environmentsFamiliarity of Databases and their managementCoordinates with Tier 4 vendors as neededStrong analytical and troubleshooting skillsClearance Required: Ability to maintain a Public Trust clearancePreferred QualificationsCitrix certifications (e.g., CC-V, CC-P, CC-E or equivalent)AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator)Experience with configuration management or desired-state tools (e.g., Ansible, DSC)Familiarity with STIGs, NIST, or similar government security frameworksExperience with Nvidia GPU enabled virtual desktop environmentsCompany OverviewGovCIO is a team of transformers--people who are passionate about transforming government IT.
