**Position:** Transcriber **Posted:** 10/07/2026 **Job Description:** **Education:** **Skills:** **Training:** **Experience:** POSITION DESCRIPTION **Title: Transcriber** **Classification:** **Independent Contractor** **Security Clearance: Yes – Tier 4 High\-risk Public Trust background investigation** **Location: Remote** **Travel Required: No** **Reports To: Program Support Administrator** **Salary/Pay Range: Contingent on contract award** **POSITION SUMMARY**: In support of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), the transcriber is responsible for converting audio/visual recordings into accurate, appropriately formatted written transcripts. This role requires excellent listening skills, attention to detail, and the ability to capture content verbatim or in summarized formats as specified. The transcriber ensures the final output meets quality and confidentiality standards. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** * Accurately convert audio/visual recordings into written text, ensuring correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. * Review and refine transcripts to maintain clarity, consistency, and accuracy. * Structure/format transcripts according to DOJ OIG guidelines and formatting requirements. * Handle sensitive information securely and maintain strict confidentiality standards. * Follow company protocols, style guides, and DOJ OIG\-specific instructions. * Collaborate with proofreaders, translators, and the Program Support Administrator to ensure high\-quality output. * Manage time efficiently to meet assignment deadlines. * If proofreading, read typed translations and verbatim transcripts while listening to the recording to validate content. Make edits to ensure conformance with the established templates/standards, the style guide, spelling of names per the glossary, and correct typographical and grammatical errors. **QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED:** * At least 2 years of transcription experience. * Be fluent in English. * Be proficient in English grammar. * Tier 4 High\-risk Public Trust background investigation or have the ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 4 High\-risk Public Trust background investigation. * Experience using Infinity USB Foot Pedal (IN\-USB\-2\) preferred. * Experience using GearPlayer 4 Transcription Software preferred. * Must be a U.S. citizen. * Must meet the DOJ residency requirements: for three of the five years immediately prior to applying for a position, the individual must have: 1\) resided in the United States; 2\) worked for the United States overseas in a Federal or military capacity; or 3\) be a dependent of a Federal or military employee serving overseas. **Physical and Environmental Requirements:** * May be required to use computer screen for extensive periods of time.
