Job Description

Fully remote. You will be in court every week, and you will try cases. Mirage Law, APC is a landlord\-side unlawful detainer firm handling a high volume of contested matters across Los Angeles County \- Stanley Mosk, Santa Monica, Inglewood, Compton, Pasadena, West Covina, and Torrance. We litigate. We do not paper cases and hope they default. We are hiring one litigation attorney to run the contested docket: hearings, discovery in both directions, motion practice, and jury trials. This is not a document\-review job and it is not a support role. You will carry your own calendar from day one. The role is fully remote. There is no office requirement and no commute except to court. You will need to appear in person for hearings and trials throughout Los Angeles County, so you must live within reasonable driving distance of the LASC courthouses, but the desk work happens wherever you want it to. WHAT YOU WILL DO Appear on contested UD calendars countywide: demurrers, motions to quash, ex parte applications, orders to show cause, and trial\-setting conferences. Propound and respond to written discovery on every contested matter, on the five\-day unlawful detainer clock. Handle discovery motion practice: meet and confer, motions to compel, motions to deem requests for admission admitted, and sanctions motions and oppositions. Take and defend depositions. Try cases, bench and jury, from final status conference through verdict. Work directly with the firm's principal on case strategy and with our paralegal team on production and filings. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Active California bar membership in good standing. 4 to 7 years of litigation experience with real courtroom time. We care about how many contested hearings you argued last year, not the name of your law school. Unlawful detainer experience strongly preferred, FROM EITHER SIDE. If you have been defending evictions at a legal services organization, you likely have more UD trial reps than most civil litigators twice your seniority, and we want to talk to you. Working knowledge of the LA City RSO, the LA County RSTPO, AB 1482, and Costa\-Hawkins. Comfort with the compressed UD timeline: five\-day discovery responses, five\-day notice on discovery motions, and statutory trial priority. Spanish is a significant plus. ALSO OPEN TO a newly admitted attorney with genuine trial ambition and demonstrated advocacy experience such as a clinic, moot court, judicial externship, or legal services fellowship. Different track, different compensation. Say so in your cover note and we will tell you what that looks like. WHY THIS ROLE Compensation depending on experience, plus a bonus for every jury trial tried to verdict. Fully remote, with in\-person appearances throughout LA County. Courtroom time every week, and real trials. You will not wait years for a file. A small firm with direct access to the principal. No committees and no billable\-hour treadmill politics.
