Job Description

Position OverviewPower your future with Qualus as an Evaluation Researcher. This position supports evaluation, research, and analysis for energy and utility projects. The successful candidate will work with quantitative and qualitative data, contribute to research design, and help produce evidence-based insights for clients. Responsibilities and expectations will align with the candidate’s experience and level.ResponsibilitiesResearch & AnalysisAnalyze quantitative data, including descriptive statistics and basic or advanced statistical modeling.Clean, manage, and prepare large datasets (e.g., billing, metering, survey, program tracking); conduct data imputation when needed.Perform qualitative analysis of open-ended survey responses and interview data.Develop figures, tables, and visualizations.Review work products for accuracy and consistency.Research Design & Data CollectionTranslate research questions into data collection instruments using appropriate methods.Support or lead sampling design and data collection planning.Program and test survey instruments; support survey fielding and track sample and completion metrics.Conduct interviews with stakeholders, customers, participants, and market actors.Synthesis & ReportingSummarize findings from individual datasets and synthesize results across multiple research activities.Contribute to written reports, memos, and presentations.Develop conclusions and recommendations supported by analysis.At senior levels, lead report sections, author complete deliverables, and present findings to clients.Collaboration & Leadership (Senior Level)Provide guidance to junior researchers.Manage multiple research activities and timelines.Communicate with clients to refine research questions and discuss progress.Contribute to proposals and other business development activities.Apply advanced methods such as multivariate analysis, weighting for complex surveys, and techniques for handling missing data.QualificationsExperience in the energy sector, energy efficiency, applied research, or program evaluation (or equivalent education/training).Experience using statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, SAS).Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.Experience developing or supporting survey instruments.Experience with survey research and qualitative research.Master’s or PhD in behavioral or social sciences, economics, public policy, or related field (preferred for higher levels).Experience authoring research reports and presenting findings (mid/senior level).Experience managing research projects and guiding less experienced staff (senior level).Ability to translate analytical findings into clear, actionable insights (mid/senior level).This position can be Remote based anywhere in the country or out of our Reno or Sacramento offices.Benefits & CompensationQualus benefits offered include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short and Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays, for those who qualify.The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
