**Academic Editor (Part\-Time Independent Contractor — Hawaii Preferred)** **Remote \| Educational Consulting and AI** Educational Consultants (EC) is an educational consulting and AI company that helps students and families solve complex academic problems. We combine expert instruction, personalized strategy, and custom AI\-powered tools to help students strengthen their writing and achieve stronger academic outcomes. We are seeking exceptional academic editors to join our growing team. This position is especially suited to candidates based in Hawaii because the time\-zone difference allows us to extend editing coverage later into the day for students and colleagues on the mainland. Editors work remotely with students on essays, research papers, assignments, application materials, and other academic projects. Students may be in middle school, high school, college, or graduate school. Each editor works only on projects that match their academic background, subject knowledge, and editorial expertise. The role emphasizes substantive, instructional editing: identifying weaknesses, explaining how to improve them, and helping students become more precise and independent writers while preserving their authorship and voice. **Responsibilities** Responsibilities will vary by experience, subject expertise, and project needs. No editor is expected to handle every type of writing listed below. **Academic Editing and Writing Support** * Review essays, research papers, assignments, application materials, and longer\-form academic projects. * Provide clear, instructional feedback on argument, structure, evidence, clarity, grammar, style, formatting, and citations. * Help students identify recurring weaknesses and revise their own work more effectively. * Preserve each student’s authorship, ideas, and authentic voice. * Explain editorial recommendations through written comments or remote meetings when needed. * Track revisions, deadlines, and project requirements across multiple assignments. * Follow all applicable academic\-integrity policies. Editors may question, explain, coach, and recommend revisions, but may not produce submitted work on a student’s behalf. **Qualifications** **Required** * Bachelor’s degree from a highly selective college or university. * Strong academic record and demonstrated strength in writing\-intensive coursework. * Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills. * Experience editing academic, professional, application, or student writing. * Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail. * Ability to manage multiple deadlines and produce consistently accurate work. * Ability to work independently and communicate proactively with a remote team. * Professionalism, reliability, sound judgment, and strong critical\-thinking skills. * Availability during hours that extend mainland editing coverage, especially late afternoon and evening in Hawaii. **Preferred** * Residence in Hawaii.
