Job Description
**Why This Role Matters**
Claim Climbers exists to help veterans obtain the VA disability benefits they have earned. We provide expert medical evidence, including nexus letters and medical record reviews, to strengthen veteran claims.
The veterans we serve deal with chronic pain, mental health struggles, financial stress, denials, broken trust in institutions, and years of frustration trying to prove conditions connected to their service. They pay us out of their own pocket, often at the hardest moment of the process, because they believe we can help get it right.
We do not take that lightly. Neither should you.
We are growing and we need financial leadership to support this growth. Every veteran we reach is another claim that finally gets the evidence it deserves. Reaching more of them takes more than good intentions. It takes knowing which investments pay for themselves, what it truly costs to deliver each service, where the money goes, and what we can afford to bet on next.
This role sets how fast we can grow and how many veterans we can serve. You'll own the function end to end, turn the numbers into insight that changes decisions. You will build budgets that give every team one plan and one scoreboard they helped create. Reliable reporting is the floor, not the goal. What we do next because of the numbers is the goal.
**About the Role**
You own the entire finance function. That means the monthly close and the reconciliations, disputes and refunds, budgets and forecasts, unit economics, and the KPIs and analytics every team uses to run its work. You also own the relationships with our outside partners and agencies that keep us compliant and competitive.
For now you wear both the accounting hat and the planning hat, and you do the work solo with the assistance of agency partners. Over time you build the team underneath you.
The point of the role is simple. You provide insights that show us where to take action.
Leadership should be able to trust the numbers without checking them, and should be able to ask hard questions and get defensible answers timely.
**What You'll Own: The Close and the Controls**
* Own the monthly close and deliver a leadership package with a P\&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and an executive summary explanation of what changed and why.
* Reconcile statements every month, so the company works from one set of numbers instead of four.
* Own the chart of accounts, expense categorization, accruals, and the discipline to keep all three clean.
* Build the documentation, approvals, and audit trail that make our records defensible to an auditor, a lender, or an investor.
**Cash, Disputes, and Revenue Leakage**
* Own the cash position, the rolling cash forecast, and the runway view that sits behind every spending decision.
* Own the Stripe dispute and refund process end to end: evidence, response, outcome, root cause, and prevention.
* Hunt revenue leakage, unnecessary spend and refunds that could have been prevented.
