The Senior Staff Accountant is a hands\-on professional responsible for owning Anovaeon’s day\-to\-day accounting operations – including bookkeeping, general ledger management, payroll coordination, invoicing, and financial reporting support. This role ensures compliance with federal financial and tax regulations, supports budgeting and audit readiness, and collaborates closely with HR, operations, and leadership to ensure accurate and timely financial accounting data across projects.
Anovaeon is an early\-stage company with room to grow, and the Senior Staff Accountant will have the opportunity to build and shape the finance function from the ground up. Prior government contracting experience is helpful but not required; training and support will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
General Bookkeeping \& Journal Entries:
* The Senior Staff Accountant will maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts; ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and timely. They will be responsible for owning day\-to\-day bookkeeping across all entities/cost centers.
* Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and adjusting entries.
Month\-End / Year\-End Closing:
* Lead the monthly and annual close process end\-to\-end, on a consistent timeline while identifying and resolving discrepancies prior to close finalization.
* Prepare financial statements (P\&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and supporting schedules for leadership review.
Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable:
* Manage the AP/AR cycle: invoice processing, approvals, and payments/receipts.
* Monitor cash flow and flag issues affecting payables or receivables timing.
Reconciliation:
* Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
* Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner and maintain clear supporting documentation sufficient for audit and internal review.
Tax \& Compliance:
* Coordinate with outside CPA/tax preparers on federal, state, and local tax filings (income, sales/use, payroll).
* Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and reporting requirements.
* Maintain internal controls and documentation to support audits and regulatory reviews.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
* 6\+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of bookkeeping, close, and reconciliation processes.
