**Part\-Time Social Media Intern for Townsend Press** **About the Bluford Series:** The Bluford High Series is a popular collection of young adult novels published by Townsend Press that focus on the lives of a group of high school students and their families. The series draws its name from the school that many of the main characters attend: Bluford High, named after Philly’s own Guion "Guy" Bluford, America's first Black astronaut. The Bluford Series broke new ground in the world of young adult (YA) fiction when it first launched in 2001 because it featured complex, endearing Black and Brown teenagers as the main characters, something rare at the time. Since then, the books have been widely praised for their ability to explore serious topics with respect—including family, friendship, trust, isolation, violence, and peer pressure, and more. The series now includes 24 titles plus an illustrated novel, the most recent of which was published in 2025\. Millions of teens have grown up with the Bluford Series over the past 20 years, reading them in schools, libraries, reading groups, and at home. 35,000\+ fans are on Bluford’s Facebook and 37,000\+ follow Bluford on IG. Hundreds of thousands have expressed love for Bluford in viral posts on X and Instagram over the years. Fan videos can be found on YouTube and TikTok, and there’s interest in a Bluford TV show. This energy has created a need at Townsend Press to keep Bluford’s social media presence active in order to stay in touch with fans, spread news and love for Bluford, and promote positive community messages related to adolescence, education, literacy, reading and writing. **Position:** Social Media Intern **Payment:** Interns are expected to work a maximum of 10 hours per week for this 4\-5 month position. Pay will be $18 per hour. **Job Description:** Townsend Press seeks a social media intern to provide positive, engaging, and appropriate content for the fan pages of its popular Bluford Series. Interns will be expected to draft weekly posts that: * Engage and grow the community of followers on our Facebook and Instagram pages. * Promote enthusiasm for the Bluford Series. * Facilitate thoughtful, respectful and uplifting conversations about the topics, themes, or issues of interest to the larger community of Bluford fans and readers in general. * Keep the pages fresh, lively, interesting, and fun. **Specific Tasks:** * Generate ideas for posts important to Bluford readers and fans. * Convert those ideas into compelling posts for Bluford’s social media pages.
