SOLV Energy is a leading provider of infrastructure services to the power industry, designing, building and maintaining utility scale solar, battery storage and high voltage substation projects nationwide.Job Description Summary:The BESS Engineer III is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and optimization of BESS projects. This role provides strategic direction, technical expertise, and engineering oversight to ensure successful delivery of BESS solutions that meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
This role is fully remote. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.Job Description:*This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assignedPosition Responsibilities and Duties:Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) for BESS engineering scopes, providing guidance and technical direction to project teams.Lead and manage the design and engineering of battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements.Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and system sizing analyses to recommendoptimalBESS configurations and future augmentation provisions.Serve as aseniortechnical contributor across electrical, civil, structural,SCADA,and HV engineering scopes on assigned projects. Manage Engineers of Record and third-party engineering partners to ensure scope clarity and timely delivery. Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local fire departments/ AHJ’s.Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components to support procurement activities.Provide technical oversight during procurement including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews.Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design,procure, install, and commission BESS systems.Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis tooptimizeperformance, efficiency, and reliability.Provide engineering support during construction, including field issue resolution, design clarifications, and minor redesigns. Provide engineering support for testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization.Ability to mentor junior engineers and project teams, providing guidance, training and lessons learned on BESS design principles and practices.Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.Support business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.Represent SOLV Engineering in customer and client meetings.Participatein regular team meetings/ calls.Travel asrequiredto support project execution.Complete other responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineeringor related field;Master'sdegree preferred.3+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.Expertiseindesign, integration, and optimization of battery energy storagesystems;includinglithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS(Battery Management Systems), and grid interconnection equipment.Knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.Proficiencyin power system analysis(PSS/E, PSCAD, etc.)and simulation tools.Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards). Strong understanding of grid operations and regulatory requirements(FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).Strong understanding offire protectionrequirements(UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).Understanding ofcommunication protocols used in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850).Project management experienceincludingbudgeting,scheduling, and riskmanagement.Strong understandingof EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skillswith the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and resources.Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.Ability to workindependently with minimal supervision,manage multiple projects, adapt to dynamic project requirements, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Bluebeam, with ability to maintain trackers, logs, schedules, and reports Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability.Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.SOLV Energy Is an Equal Opportunity EmployerAt SOLV Energy we celebrate the power of our differences.
