Job Description

This is a remote position.An NPO is looking for a remote Group CFO to lead the organisation’s financial strategy, governance and operational stewardship across a multi-entity, multi-country environment. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on financial control, ensuring financial sustainability, compliance and effective use of funds. The suitable candidate to be Cape Town / Nelspruit based.Financial Strategy & GovernanceLead the development of medium- and long-term financial strategy, including funding runway, capital allocation, reserves and scenario planningProvide decision-ready financial insight to the Board, investors and funders through high-quality reporting, forecasts and analysisEnsure financial strategy aligns with organisational objectives, pricing models, programme outcomes and funding structuresFinancial Stewardship & ReportingDeliver accurate and timely group budgets, rolling forecasts, cash flow projections and statutory financial statementsMaintain general ledger integrity, audit readiness and full statutory and tax compliance across all entitiesProduce consolidated management accounts and entity-level reporting for Boards, donors and fundersCash Flow & TreasuryActively monitor funding adequacy and liquidity across all countries and entitiesManage banking relationships, inter-company cash movements and foreign settlementsIdentify and mitigate funding gaps through proactive cash flow planningControls, Risk & ComplianceMaintain a strong internal control environment including delegations of authority, treasury, procurement and reserves policiesLead financial risk management, tax efficiency and compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictionsEnsure audit findings, due diligence actions and high-risk issues are resolved in a timely mannerProcurement & Contract OversightReview and approve major procurement commitments, pricing and freight within budget and cash flow limitsOversee financial terms in contracts and funding agreements to minimise risk and protect organisational interestsPeople & Capability LeadershipLead, develop and retain a high-performing finance and data teamBuild succession, multi-skilling and financial literacy across the organisationStrengthen analytical and reporting capability to support strategic decision-makingCulture, Integrity & StewardshipAct as a trusted financial steward, promoting integrity, accountability and collaborationEmbed strong financial governance while supporting the organisation’s mission and values RequirementsKnowledge:Professional accounting qualification (CA/ACCA/CIMA) 10+years' post articles with group level responsibilityTrack record in analytics-enabled decision supportInternational non-profit and multi-entity financeDonor complianceFinancial Risk Management within regional and sector contextProcurement and contracting basicsWork skills:Consolidation, forecasting, and scenario modellingCashflow and currency managementPolicy design and control frameworksBoard and vendor engagementInterpersonal skills:Executive communicationEthical and trustworthyStakeholder management (funders/investors)Coaching and change leadership Originally posted on Himalayas
