Scheduled Hours40Position SummaryManages and directs all research financial and operational issues for the department, while ensuring cohesiveness, compliance and consistency. Oversight responsibility includes making sure that established objectives are met.Job DescriptionPrimary Duties & Responsibilities: Oversees grant and operating funds, including funding from multiple divisions.Prepares and oversees department research budget, financial plan, and financial projections.Prepares and analyzes grant data reports; distributes, tracks, and monitors bridge, start-up, cost-sharing, and restricted DFA funding.Develops and oversees tracking mechanisms for grant submission data (current awards, pending awards, grants submitted, etc.).Provides data for research components of division strategic plan documents.Oversees the purchasing operation, ensuring maximum utilization of funds; reviews and approves social expenses, equipment, and other transactions over staff limits.Interpretates and communicates all University and government policies and procedures related to research administration.Oversees research payroll sourcing; approve payroll documents.Develops, implements, and maintains standard practices and procedures to ensure efficient workflow; manages cost vs. processes improvement decisions.Assures professional public relations and efficient handling of complaints.Works with the Unit Leaders, Department Chairman, and/or Executive Director for Business Affairs & Strategic Planning to develop new programs or projects.Represents the department on University committees (e.g., Department Research Administrators Committee, Department Research Compliance Committee).Oversees personnel issues consists of handling employee-related problems, reviewing and approving all research staffing changes such as promotions and hires, ensuring completion of job descriptions and employee evaluations, and ensuring titles and salaries are consistently maintained.Oversees personnel to ensure staffing levels are maintained.Prepares annual reports for research administration and oversight of divisional annual reports as they relate to research data.Oversees preparation of monthly research newsletter.Oversees space system updates for all research-related space.Oversees coordination of common services such as radioactive waste disposal, equipment maintenance, glassware washing needs, etc.; coordination of common equipment and shared facilities.Works with Facilities and maintenance staff to ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained (including electrical issues, hood certifications, general maintenance, etc.).Supervises support service activities as they relate to research space.Oversees equipment inventory (both internal and University systems).Working Conditions:Job Location/Working ConditionsNormal office environmentPhysical EffortTypically sitting at a desk or a tableEquipmentOffice equipmentThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification.
