In this role, you translate contract documents (plans, specifications, addenda, and purchase orders) into accurate, code-compliant door, frame, and hardware schedules that the entire project team depends on. Your work determines what gets ordered, what gets installed, and whether a project meets UL, fire code, ADA, life safety, and local building code requirements. This is a role for someone who takes genuine pride in precision: a subject-matter expert who catches specification conflicts before they become field problems and produces submittals that hold up to scrutiny from architects and general contractors. Core ResponsibilitiesReview sales sheets, job requirements, and contract documents, including purchase orders, architectural plans, specifications, and addenda, to establish accurate opening quantities and product requirements for each projectAccurately detail and schedule all door, frame, and hardware materials, verifying product costs against estimates and documenting variances throughout the scheduling processDetermine product selections based on specification requirements, project scope, cost targets, and applicable code standardsVerify that all products and assemblies meet applicable code requirements, including UL listings, fire and smoke ratings, ADA compliance, life safety standards, and local building codePrepare shop drawings, schedules, and submittals using manufacturer catalog cuts and company-issued softwarePrepare elevation drawings and corresponding sections as necessary using company-issued CAD or detailing softwareWrite clear technical notes identifying issues, required verifications, or items requiring instruction by the GC or architect during the submittal processReview completed schedules and submittals for errors prior to release; update and resubmit as required upon returnMaintain organized, accurate project files throughout the lifecycle of each assignmentTechnical RequirementsAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical, engineering, architecture, or construction-related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered2 to 4 years of experience in detailing, estimating, project coordination, or specification work within the commercial construction or building materials industryApplied knowledge of door, frame, and hardware types, manufacturer product lines, and how components interact in a complete opening assemblyWorking knowledge of UL listings, fire and smoke ratings, ADA requirements, life safety standards, and commercial building code as applied to openingsProficiency in company-issued detailing and scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook; CAD experience a plusPrecise quantitative skills for cost entry, reconciliation, and quantity verification across project documentsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesA track record of producing accurate, detailed work products with low error rates and strong attention to specification complianceThe ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously without sacrificing accuracy or missing documentation deadlinesAbility to read and interpret architectural plans, construction documents, and written specifications accurately and independentlyMethodical approach to problem-solving: you check your work, follow the process, and flag issues before they escalatePhysical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
