Job Description
**Description**
Fully Remote · Part\-Time · 6\-Month Program · Paid, USD 18–20 per hour · 25–30 hours/week
**About the role**
We are a fully remote, decentralized accounting firm that runs on AI\-assisted workflows. We are looking for an intern who already uses AI tools by choice, follows how they are changing, and wants to apply them to real accounting operations.
This is primarily a back\-office role that may include some client\-facing work. You will work on the systems that keep the firm accurate: document handling, bookkeeping support, data extraction, and the automations that connect them.
This is not a role for someone who wants to learn what AI is. It is for someone who already experiments with it and wants to learn where it works, where it fails, and how to use it responsibly with real financial data.
**What you will do**
* Organize and maintain client documents, files, and portal records using firm\-approved tools.
* Support bookkeeping tasks such as transaction categorization, reconciliation prep, and data entry review in our accounting system.
* Use AI assistants to extract, summarize, and structure data from documents, then verify the output against source records.
* Build and test prompts, templates, and repeatable instructions for recurring tasks.
* Identify manual, repetitive steps and propose automations using tools such as Zapier, Make, n8n, spreadsheet scripts, AI agents, or tool connectors.
* Document each workflow you touch so others can audit and repeat it.
* Track new AI tools and features relevant to accounting operations and brief the team on what is worth testing.
**What you will learn**
* How a modern accounting firm operates end to end, from document intake to close support.
* How to design AI\-assisted workflows with human review, verification steps, and audit trails.
* How confidentiality, data security, and professional standards apply when AI touches client data.
* How to evaluate a new tool on accuracy, cost, risk, and fit rather than novelty.
**How we work with AI**
We use AI every day, under clear rules. Client data goes only into approved tools. AI output is checked before it is relied on. Every automated step has a human owner. Interns learn these controls from day one and are expected to follow them.
**Who will do well here**
* You use AI tools regularly on your own initiative, and you can show examples.
* You notice when AI output is wrong, and you check before you trust.
* You keep up with the field: new models, agents, and automation tools.
* You care about accuracy and finishing details more than speed.
* You communicate clearly in writing and ask questions early when work is unclear.
* You have an interest in accounting, finance, operations, or systems, through coursework, work, or self\-directed projects.
**Program structure**
* Months 1–2: Firm systems, confidentiality and data\-handling training, supervised document and bookkeeping support.
* Months 3–4: Own a defined set of recurring
