Job Description
ABOUT FIELDWORK FINANCIAL
Fieldwork Financial provides monthly bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax, and advisory services to HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors in Orange County, the Inland Empire, and San Diego. One industry, full focus. We are an early\-stage firm building the team before we scale.
Fieldwork is not a CPA firm and provides no attest services. We hold written guidance from California Board of Accountancy staff confirming that a firm which does not hold itself out as a CPA firm may employ a CPA to provide tax services, and we will share it on request.
THE ROLE
One person owns a book of contractor clients end to end: monthly close review, financial statements, tax, and advisory. W\-2 employee, part\-time at 20 to 25 hours per week, converting to full\-time as the client base grows.
Remote, anywhere in the United States. Your hours need to overlap roughly 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pacific, because contractors call early from job sites.
WHAT YOU WOULD OWN
\- Monthly close review and financial statements for your own book of clients
\- Review of bookkeeper work before anything reaches a client
\- Business and owner tax returns: 1120\-S, 1065, 1040, and California
\- Tax planning sessions with each owner in June and October
\- IRS and FTB representation
\- Monthly advisory calls with owners
\- 16 to 20 clients at full capacity
HOW THE WORK IS DESIGNED
\- Clients close on business day 6, 9, or 12, so the month stays level.
\- Tax planning happens in June and October by design, not February.
\- December close finishes by January 15\.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
\- Construction or contractor client experience. This matters most: WIP, retainage, job costing, percentage of completion, over and under billing.
\- At least 5 years preparing business and owner tax returns.
\- Current tax preparer credential: Enrolled Agent, CPA, or CTEC registration.
\- Both tax work and financial statement work, not one or the other.
\- QuickBooks Online at review depth, not just data entry.
\- The ability to walk an owner through their numbers plainly.
\- If you currently run your own practice, say so up front. It is not a disqualifier.
COMPENSATION
$40 to $55 per hour. Full\-time conversion terms are discussed at offer.
TO APPLY
Give your name exactly as it appears on your Enrolled Agent credential, CPA license, or CTEC registration.
Pay: $40\.00 \- $55\.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20\.0 – 25\.0 per week
Application Question(s):
* Which tax preparer credential do you currently hold: Enrolled Agent, CPA, or CTEC registration? If CPA, give the state of licensure. If EA, give your enrollment number.
* Describe your construction or contractor client experience. Which of these have you actually worked with: WIP schedules, retainage, job costing, percentage of completion, over and under billing?
* How many years have you prepared business and owner tax returns (1120\-S, 1065, 1040\)? Did you sign them as the paid preparer, or were they
